Great entry for a movie jam

The people that are giving this so much flack obviously don't understand the premise of a "jam" and the limited amount of time you were given to make this.
I spent all weekend at the Global Game Jam and I can say from experience that making a flash animation that looks and sounds so good takes a lot more time than that measly 48 hours or however much time they had.

Good, but has room for improvement

The ideas and plot were pretty fresh and interesting. I like the way Karissa's eyes are empty, since as a protagonist you're supposed to be relating to her, but the way she looks makes her seem a bit different.
The timeline was a little difficult to follow, though. Even though there was the "3 days earlier" thing, it was kind of impossible to tell what was a flashback and what was actually happening in the present.
I also spotted some contradictions. She talks about only having one friend and says, "Why would anyone want more than one friend?" and then she calls the worms her 'friends', implying that she does have more than one. I think 'guardians' or 'protectors' would've been a better word for them.
Also, for a town where it always rains, it sure doesn't rain a lot (didn't rain in some scenes). It kind of breaks the atmosphere that was set up at the beginning.
I'm looking forward to watching this and seeing how it progresses.

best yet

In my honest opinion this is the best episode in the series. The plot was great, action scenes were nicely done, music fit perfectly, and the graphics were awesome (close-ups and doomship).
I also like how you introduced alot of new things (fire sonic, etc.). Basaliskx, even though I have no idea how to spell his name, is incredibly cool, and is my new favorite unofficial Mario character.

HUD and "How To" hinder the game

It's pretty fun, but the HUD is terrible.
When playing the game, when do you have time to look at the bottom of the screen? Never. The health should be displayed on or near the character, like if it got more beat up the more damage you take.
Also, the "How To" was overwhelming and chaotic, since the information kept changing, and there was a lot of it, and you couldn't pause it.
So overall, solid effort, but loses points for the interface.

Decent

It seemed like a good game, but I had to stop early on because the controls were a pain. Seriously, if you make a sequel, make it so SPACE JUMPS, and A FIRES. Not the other way around.

Didn't feel just right...

I always liked the idea of a classic shooter with RPG elements, but the game just didn't deliver the perfection I was hoping for.
First off, the background was very annoying. It didn't give you much sense of location, and I always thought that the stretchy stars were gunfire. It would have been nice if the stars were gunfire, because the lack of gunfire filling the screen at the beginning was disappointing. There were also no mid-level power ups, which ruins alot of fun.
On the plus side, the ship designs and graphics were awesome. It's just that the game didn't keep me interested enough to play more than one level.

This is really amazing. It's one of the best 8-bit songs I've ever heard, and that's saying something.
If you're considering making more, please do.

Brilliant

This is just awesome. I've been waiting to hear something like this for a while on Newgrounds.

Just what I was looking for...

I was about to practice some trombone improv, but I realized that I had no good funk backup tracks. This could easily work for my improving, and it has a nice head.
So is the title a suggestion? I'd gladly record and post whatever I do with this, if you want me to that is.

ACTION SQUID!

It's Action Squid, so there's not much to criticize here. It looks very good, and less cartoony than the others. Although if you wanted to make it look more mature, you could make him look semi-realistic.
I yearn for another pose, but I guess there's not much you can do with a cephalopod.
But in summary: Best. Action Squid. Ever.
